Accutane: The Beginning
After trying many products such as topical creams and pills for my facial acne and having them fail, my dermatologist suggested that I try Accutane. If you do not know what Accutane is, it is a prescription drug that treats severe acne. Accutane works by shrinking your oil glands down to a very small size. At the end of the treatment, the oil glands expand to a normal size. So, supposedly by the end of the five to six month treatment, my acne could be gone forever. I am taking the generic brand of Accutane called Claravis at 40 mg right now. (With a coupon, this 30-day prescription cost a little over $200 at Wal-Mart Pharmacy). I have been taking Claravis since April 5th, 2014 and so far I haven't noticed any changes in my acne, but I was not expecting to yet. What I have noticed however is the dryness. Since Accutane shrinks your oil glands to less than the size of normal, a common side effect is dryness of the face, lips, and hands. I have not noticed any extreme dryness on my face yet, but my eyes feel a bit more dry than usual. I wear contacts and after getting home from school, I took them out because they were beginning to bother me. If you do not wear contacts though, dry eyes may not be a major problem for you. My lips are usually quite dry even without Accutane, so you can imagine how they feel now. I am now applying lip products religiously. My favorites right now include Vaseline lip balms and Baby Lips Dr. Rescues. My hands don't feel too dry yet, but I still apply hand cream throughout the day and before I go to bed. I'm looking forward to see what Accutane has in store for me and I will update you on my experience once a week.
My First Blog Post
Hello! Welcome to my blog! I'm really excited to start writing about beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. I have been wanting to start a blog for a few months now because I think that I have a lot to share. I got the idea from a few of my favorite bloggers, Zoella and Lady Smart. I hope that you enjoy what I have to offer!
