This past July, I had the amazing experience of going to the Caribbean on a cruise. I went on the Carnival Splendor. It is a beautiful ship, and the staff were all incredible. I had so much fun, and I want to show you some of the many photographs taken on the trip.

Our ship while docked in port |
The ship left out of New York City, which was nice because it is one of my favorite places in America. Embarkation is not the most fun part of the trip, as there is a lot of waiting, but it's totally worth it once you get on the ship. I'm sad that I did not get any photos of the ship's interior because it was absolutely amazing. I can't believe something like this floats! Leaving out of New York allowed us to leave from the harbor and pass the statue of liberty. I had never seen the statue in person and I was very excited to finally see it! We made sure to be on the correct side of the ship and it made for some great photos!

After leaving the harbor, we were out into open water! We left New York a little after 4:00 pm and did not arrive at our first port until 3:00 pm two days later. Almost three days at sea made me very happy to finally see land when we arrived in Puerto Rico. We went to Old San Juan, which is the more historic part of Puerto Rico, rather than the city of San Juan. My favorite part about Puerto Rico is the two forts on the shores of the island. I had the pleasure of going inside one of these forts. The forts themselves are beautiful, but so are the views that you get. I felt like I was able to see the entire island while on top of the fort. Only one complaint about Puerto Rico...it is SO hot. As we went in July, it was extremely sunny, and we had to jump in the pool once we got back to the ship.

Our next stop on the trip was St. Thomas. It only took us one night to arrive on the island after leaving Puerto Rico. St. Thomas is an absolutely gorgeous island. The hills are lined with colorful houses and yachts line the docks. We planned a snorkeling excursion for the day. After finding our small group at the Fat Turtle Restaurant (yes that was the actual name), we boarded a sail boat, and headed out to a turtle cove. The boat ride was amazing because we got to see all the beaches and buildings that lined the bay. Our guides had some great information and they were so much fun to be around. It was probably my favorite boat ride, and my first on a sailboat! Once we arrived at the cove, we hopped in and went in search for some turtles! We were able to see not only three turtles, but also sting rays, tropical fish, squid, and a coral reef. This was my absolute favorite part of the trip. Unfortunately, I did not get many pictures while snorkeling because my camera is not waterproof. I had a waterproof one, but it is disposable, and I have yet to develop the photos. However, there were some great photos of the island from our boat ride!

The final port of call was Grand Turk. My favorite part about the island is the gorgeous turquoise blue water. It is so clear and looked absolutely incredible. Here, we planned an excursion to go horseback riding on the beach and in the ocean. I was very excited about this as I love horseback riding, but don't get to do it very often. Grand Turk had a bit more poverty than St. Thomas did. The people live in small houses with sand lawns. On our car ride to the beach, we saw donkeys roaming around, and even a group of them on someone's porch! Dogs and horses also roam freely on the island. It's very small as it's only seven miles long and one and a half miles wide. Our horseback riding excursion was a great experience. I had the opportunity to ride in the ocean without a saddle which was very new to me. Previously, I had only been horseback riding with saddles and on trails. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera on the boat, and didn't get pictures during the ride, but there are some great pictures of the island.

My favorite picture of the trip :) |
On the final night, we were able watch the sunset from the deck. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The sun was bright red, and the clouds over it looked purple. In a matter of about fifteen minutes, the sun goes from up in the sky to sinking into the ocean. It appears to just disappear before our very eyes. I don't think photographs can capture how amazing this is, but they can try!
Also, there was a demonstration where I learned how to make towel animals. After learning, I couldn't stop making them. Once you get they hang of it, they are not difficult to make, you just need the right sized towels and practice! This is my first attempt at an elephant, and I used my sunglasses for eyes.
I hope that you have enjoyed this post about my vacation! It was an amazing experience and I'm so happy that I chose to go for my birthday. The food was great and I miss it quite a bit. I would love to go on another cruise very soon. Hopefully next year! :) I apologize that this post took a while to go up. I've been working on it all week, but did not have very much time as school is getting very busy. Keep on the lookout for a new blog post about my favorite fall lipsticks. I'm so happy that it's almost fall. It's my favorite season! Comment below what you love about fall and I'll talk to you soon! xo
